Health Insurance Coverage

Have you ever stopped to think about all the types of insurance that are available in today’s world? Years ago who would’ve ever thought that you could take out insurance on your pet. In my personal opinion I think that’s just a little over-the-top. But then again as I started thinking about things I remember my parents talking (and this may cut you how old I am) that the actor and dancer, Gene Kelly had his legs insured for $1 million dollars, but that would stand to reason because that was his livelihood. I struggle with the thought of people getting insurance for their pets when I’m having such a difficult time getting affordable health insurance coverage for my family. Health care costs have risen so much in the last decade that it only stands to reason that health insurance coverage has increased as well. But with the recession and the state of the economy are income has increased in fact in the last two years it’s gone down significantly and that’s left us with an interesting dilemma.

Insurance across the board has increased significantly. I made phone calls yesterday to inquire how much it was going to cost to ensure our 16-year-old son, who is about ready to get his driver’s license, and I was taken back with the auto insurance quotes that I received from some of the major carriers. He may just have to walk everywhere for the next few years. We have really had to budget our money lately with regard to all of our financial responsibilities and trying to work in insurance costs into the equation. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois has always been a great source for us with regard to our health insurance coverage in the past. I don’t know why I hesitate so much to call, I guess it’s just the outlay of the monthly premiums for what you get in return that has me so worked up.

If it’s this hard now to make ends meet after trying to get affordable health insurance coverage I can’t imagine what it will be like when we enter into our retirement years knowing that were going to be on a fixed income. I know that we will have traditional Medicare available to us if Congress doesn’t take that away, but I’ve heard horror stories from people that only have Medicare coverage and they have been left with huge medical expenses after Medicare is covered their portion. That’s where Medicare supplement insurance will come into play. With a small monthly premium we will have coverage that works alongside with traditional Medicare to help bridge the gap between what Medicare will cover and what our responsibility will be. So that brings up a great deal of comfort when thinking about our retirement years. A friend of mine recommended that when the time comes to call 1-800-MEDIGAP and let their professionals help with making the most important decision as we face retirement.
